<identity>dckc: well, the cache is stored in the cache directory, which is $XDG_CACHE_HOME, and if you --preserve-env the cache will be of your user, not of the root user

<identity>it is not mentioned in the manual, but is not too difficult to put the pieces together

<dckc>yes, it makes sense now that I know it. but how is one supposed to discover such things? also: it's not entirely clear to me that there aren't any hidden gotchas.
