<jfred>Okay, now that's interesting... I managed to reproduce that same GUILE_TOOLS issue I was seeing with pumpkin-chat on one of my own projects https://codeberg.org/spritely/pumpkin-chat/issues/60
<jfred>I hadn't run `autoreconf -vfi` on that project in a while and so I hadn't run into it
<jfred>hmmmm
<jfred>argh, running with `--pure` does the trick. so *something* from my shell environment is leaking in
<dthompson>jfred: ah do you have guile installed to /usr or something? that has been known to cause issues because guile's autoconf macros seem to discover that first
<jfred>dthompson: Oh interesting - looks like yes I do. It's the Reform which has a Debian image for now, I've got Guix installed as a foreign package manager
<cwebber>:)
<cwebber>hey jfred !
<cwebber>I too will be soon hacking Spritely stuff more from my Reform on the regular, I hope
<jfred>hey! :)
<cwebber>I've been upgrading my Reform Classic bit by bit
<jfred>:D
<jfred>it's fun being able to do that with a laptop
<cwebber>yeah!
<cwebber>once the Quasar comes out
<cwebber>I think it'll really be possible to use the Reform for everything
<jfred>oh yeah that'll be wild
<cwebber>what board are you using rn?
<jfred>rk3588 on my big reform, i.mx8mp on the pocket reform I'm using right now. Though I've ordered the updated rcore board and when that gets here I'll probably do a switcheroo
<jfred>really like having mobile data as an option and you need the new board to have both that + nvme storage on the pocket
<cwebber>oh are you actually using mobile data on your pocket?!
<jfred>yup!
<cwebber>wow coooool
<jfred>with mixed success but it's come in handy occasionally
<jfred>I
<jfred>I've got a JMP SIM in here so it's a little expensive if I use it too much but costs next to nothing if I use it sparingly
<jfred>so it's like the "uh oh I need to log into a server and fix it right now" kinda thing
<jfred>but yeah CAD is the one thing I really miss on these machines, so the quasar will be nice. they're getting closer and closer to modern laptop performance haha
<cwebber>yeah
<cwebber>the Valve announcements also make all this interesting
<cwebber>Probably means that ARM64 Linux is going to get a lot nicer in general
<cwebber>in userspace
<cwebber>sorry, aarch64 ;P
<dthompson>the steam frame tech is really cool
<jfred>oh yeah. the steam frame being aarch64 was super interesting (also kinda expected given some of the leaks)
<dthompson>I imagine it's difficult to keep this stuff under wraps when you're contributing to FOSS projects to prepare
<jfred>yeah. though the big hint on that one was actually steamdb scraping test stuff from steam: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2024/09/valve-appear-to-be-testing-arm64-and-android-support-for-steam-on-linux/
<jfred>so more of a "whoops we didn't mean for that one to be public" that time haha
<dthompson>woopsies
