<kaizer>Quick question y'all why no foss scheme ai?
<kaizer>I'm asking all over the place so dont be surprised but this is free money so I'm quite confused
<jackhill>I ran into some folks online (DivestOS (Android Distro)) that seem to have a phobia about wasm. I hadn't encountered this before. Seems to be JIT related (they disable it in their browsers).
<dthompson>sounds like a fear of jit more than a fear of wasm?
<jackhill>dthompson: yeah, I think mostly? There were a couple of folks in the conversation who had different views, but that seems the main part of it. It was dissapointing to me since JS can run without a JIT.
<jackhill>seems like wasm could too, but it was a limitation of the way browsers implement it.
<jackhill>I guess I was just sad because I was hoping wasm would become more universal
<dthompson>sure you can run wasm without jit. production runtimes use jit, though.
<jackhill>I wonder if there is some way to bridge this devide so that wasm can be more universal.
<jackhill>also, that's interesting. Naïvely assume that more optimisations have already been done producing wasm compared to vanilla JS.
<dthompson>without really knowing this project I'd say that they're just overly paranoid
<jackhill>yeah, unfortunatly I don't know enough about browser internals to really engage with them.
<jackhill>I think they may have a BDFL structure.
