<bigmike-sit>huh. gtk4 apparently *just works*
<youpi>well, yes
<youpi>the testsuite fails on only a couple tests
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>I wonder how a wayland setup would go
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>compositor implemented as a translator?! hm, too interesting of a thought now
<bigmike-sit>GNU_Hurd_Rocks: would be interesting but probably difficult and quite slow 😅
<nexussfan>GNU_Hurd_Rocks: Wayland has sockets to communicate (IIRC), so it should be possible
<nexussfan>Well, it would be difficult to implement as there is no libinput and libdrm on Hurd, the last time I checked
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>nexussfan: However, it seems even OpenBSD can work with wayland
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>this, https://cvsweb.openbsd.org/ports/wayland/
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>I could ALMOST be an openbsd person if their wasn't some drivers lacking, still not something I have much experience with though
<etno>The quality>features, along with things like pledge/unveil are quite appealing. But the architecture is so boring 😅 (that's part of the goal, to be fair)
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>I'm not against writing a driver for what I need though, but it's still too far outside of my expertise right now
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>would want to build the whole thing from source at least twice to get some understanding
<sigttou>depends what you need - but, how can you use hurd on HW but not openbsd?
<Alicia>in my experience you don't really learn much from just building it
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>sigttou: I've used both, but without network it's not fun
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>Alicia: to learn how the configuration works
<Alicia>ah
<sigttou>GNU_Hurd_Rocks: okay, I thought OpenBSD already has good support there :(
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>wireless is hit or miss I think
<sigttou>ahh, yeah wifi is an issue, can only try FreeBSD
<etno>Woohoo ! It was quite a ride, but I now have the BAR of my virtio device properly setup !
<etno>Yesterday, I was suspecting rumpkernel of reallocating the PCI resources, but I was wrong (the code able to do this is built into the rumpkernel library, but is not run). Indeed, the BAR was still good (initialized by the BIOS) after rumpdisk had started.
<etno>It was during the network config, and that was DDE. So I switched to rumpnet, and now the address is not mangled anymore.
<etno>Overall, if your 64 bits PCI device has issues, beware of the DDE driver
<sigttou>WTF is GNU AI, is that a real GNU project?!
<Alicia>I don't think so. this seems to be Claire's thing
<sigttou>quite misleading then...
<Alicia>yeah
<nexussfan>Hmm. Looks like lwip with rumpnet on the latest Hurd update on debian hangs on isc dhcp
<nexussfan>Nevermind, worked after a reboot(?)
<nexussfan>Somehow, cmatrix crashes after ~1-2 seconds running on Hurd. `signal {no:11, code:2, error:2}, exception {1, code:2, subcode:0}
<hwpplayer1>I'm back
<hwpplayer1>bbl
