<damo22>ah sorry, i thought the last gnumach CI failed to run but it did somehow, but didnt display correctly in my dashboard, so i reran it
<david`>how can i start in hurd ?
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>VM is a good starting place always
<david`>yes i start with qemu
<david`>i am on guix-system
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>Gentoo for example is one that has qemu images, https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Hurd#Booting
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>or at least qcow :3
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>the file goes moo!!
<sam_>debian does as well, I would recommend debian for new users for now as there's more docs for it and more people ot help
<sam_>*to
<david`>how many time you are in hurd?
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>My one laptop runs Hurd though, very neat and I love it
<david`>do you yous day to day?
<david`>soory if my english is not to good
<david`>do you use doy to day ? your laptop with hurd?
<david`>doyou try to run hurd on fpga?
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>not much, I want to diagnose the ethernet first
<david`>thanks for respond me... soory if I bother you, that is not my intention, relly i want to get deeply in hurd. good night
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>you're fine
<david`>thanks
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>asking questions is always a good idea :3
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>it looks like my ethernet within a linux based env doesn't need firmware to be loaded, very good start
<damo22>showtrans /dev/eth0
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>damo22: so, that shows "/hurd/devnode -M /dev/net eth0"
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>there are some utilities that are currently not installed as the basic profile doesn't include them
<damo22>showtrans /dev/net
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>showtrans: /dev/net: No such file or directory
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>although, I could perhaps try the 64-bit hurd
<damo22>GNU_Hurd_Rocks: that is your problem, /dev/net doesnt have a translator
<damo22>showtrans /dev/netdde
<Darelelve>youpi: Hello, could you take a look at my patch ([PATCH] Added checks for strdup and asprintf return value in several place)? I sent it a few days ago, but I haven't received a response yet...
<youpi>it's still in my inbox yes
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>damo22: I fell asleep, I'm back now, netdde also doesn't exist
<damo22>GNU_Hurd_Rocks: sudo settrans -pc /dev/net /hurd/firmlink /dev/netdde && sudo settrans -pc /dev/netdde /hurd/netdde
<damo22>then try to bring up the interface
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>damo22: if I go through the gentoo ./setup-net.sh it definitely does some errors so I'm not entirely certain
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>damo22: this is the script used, there is also the 64-bit, https://bpa.st/7FKQ
<GNU_Hurd_Rocks>there is net-setup-64.sh but that has different content
<damo22>GNU_Hurd_Rocks: yeah but youre missing the /dev/net and /dev/netdde entries
<damo22>based on what you told me, the above command i wrote should work
<damo22>gtg
<Femtoo>I have decided it would be fun to look at x86-64 Hurd, with smp enabled as well
