<damo22>if CLOCK_MONOTONIC is used in pthread_cond_attr, the abstime param is supposed to be a relative time...
<damo22> if ((status = pthread_condattr_setclock(_condattr, CLOCK_MONOTONIC)) != 0) {
<damo22> if (status == EINVAL) {
<damo22> warning("Unable to use monotonic clock with relative timed-waits" \
<damo22> " - changes to the time-of-day clock may have adverse affects");
<damo22>so that must be a bug in glibc
<loveLain>hello! the "https://www.gnu.org/s/hurd/contributing.html" link in the topic does not seem to be working, also where would i find the official git repo? i tried "https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/hurd" but the git server seems to be down (?) i would like to take a look at the source code and maybe even try to contribute something!
<solid_black>morning!
<solid_black> https://cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/hurd/hurd.git/tree/ loads for me
<solid_black>if not that, here's Flavio's mirror on GitHub: https://github.com/flavioc/hurd
<solid_black>(not sure if it's 100% up to date, but should be certainly good enough for taking a look)
<azeem>loveLain: it's a general problem with AI scrapers and non-Hyperscaler public infrastructure I'm afraif
<azeem>afraid*
<loveLain>i'll use the github mirror for now then, as for some reason the cgit.git.savannah.gnu.org and git.savannah.gnu.org do not want to resppond, no idea why
<solid_black>(I'm yet to see any evidence that the -- well-documented -- mass scraping is related/tied to AL/LLM companies)
<loveLain>yeah i remember there being that project with the anime girl that would automatically change the pow difficulty based on the website traffic
<solid_black>Anubis
<loveLain>yeah
<solid_black>loveLain: how familiar are you with the general design of the Hurd?
<solid_black>microkernels, Mach, capabilities?
<loveLain>i am familiar with kernel development and how microkernels work but not familiar with hurd
<azert>azeem: any proof that the AI scrapers are at fault for this?
<azert>it was my understanding that it was just a racketing mafia issue and you had to pay some well known institutions to protect you from this. But I’m very biased in my judgment and I would appreciate someone proving me wrong
<nikolar>azert: it's been a well known issue that the gnu infrastructure has been hit buy ddos at first, and more recently is struggling with the scrapers
<nikolar>like, they talk about it every so often
<azert>ok but you can’t say what I said in the open on the news because its considered conspiracy theorist material. When I read those article I think about mafia
<azert>it is not like they provide any proofs in the news, they expect you to blindly believe whatever they say
<azert>we can all appreciate that there is a pay solution for this, and it is obvious that the gnu project decided not to go that way
<azert>there is also Anubis but I think it is not a complete solution and it has an large environmental impact
<azert>also many are allergic to anime and I cannot blame them
<Alicia>I don't have the links to clips on hand, but I'm fairly certain some of the AI CEOs have openly stated how they need more training data and they've already exhausted the books, films, etc. so they have to resort to anything they can get their hands on
<Alicia>you can also see the useragent strings sometimes self-reporting that it's AI shit
<Alicia>"[fake regular browsers cut out for brevity]; compatible; OAI-SearchBot/1.4; robots.txt; +https://openai.com/searchbot"
<azeem>I don't think anybody ever contacted anybody with ransom notices
<Alicia>yeah I haven't received one
