<janneke>is there a list of hardware that the hurd (32-bit, 64-bit) has been know to boot/work on? <janneke>eg, /me booted the 32-bit hurd on a thinkpad x60 <janneke>in any case, i had no luck booting the 64-bit hurd on a x230 today <jab>it's a little sad that the T430 didn't work. The T420 works just fine for me. <jab>sorry, you said the x230. <janneke>oh, so i could even try a x220 (given your 430/420 remark); interesting <jab>I personally have not tried using a T430, but my T420 worked just fine. <janneke>jab: did you also try 64-bit by chance? <jab>I'm running Debian GNU/Hurd on a T420 with 12 GB of Ram. i3, netsurf, inkscape, emacs...all works. <jab>I am hoping to try out the new ext3 compatible journal soon. <janneke>jab: oh, that's beautiful; does smp work for you too? <janneke>ACTION tried guix/hurd smp in a vm, and it boots, and `smp' runs; but then the guix executable segfaults <jab>it does. Debian has the smp kernel that you can install. <jab>I did have to re-install a week ago or so? It crashed on my too many times, and I had lots of filesystem corruption. <jab>janneke: I'm excited to see Debian GNU/Hurd + guix. That would let guix people try out stowfs + guix. <janneke>ah right, guix isn't quite that up to date <star_sapphire>id love to try hurd on my x220 but its librebooted! i just read that wiki page, didnt know about the drm. thats probably why it kept failing when trying to use my librebooted t400 with guix a few months ago <jab>star_sapphire: I believe that you can run the Hurd on libreboot/coreboot. Damien does. But I do not believe that X currently works with libreboot/coreboot. <jab>janneke: thanks for sharing that task list. FYI, on real hardware...I do not know how you can support "Support regular guix pull (from an url)". Hurd's networking on my T420 is really slow. 10 - 100 Kb/s. <star_sapphire>jab: tty only, then? that is doable! i might give it a try sometime soon then! i have an extra ssd i could use with the x220 <jab>ask damo22 for help if you get stuck. He's the expert. <jab>anytime. Let me know if you want to help with editing the wiki or Hurd artwork. <janneke>jab: oh, well -- git clone worked on the x60; we'll see <jab>did you do it on real hardware or in a vm ? <jab>maybe it is rumpnet + pfinet that is so slow for me. <janneke>thanks! yeah, i wasn't using rumpnet
