<Ribby>Does hurd kernel have libre standards, or is it like Linux kernel? Are there any OS with hurd kernel with sufficient GNU/Linux standards?
<nexussfan>hurd has no proprietary software at the moment
<nexussfan>hopefully forever
<Ribby>Okay, that's good to know.
<nexussfan>sneek later tell jab he probably figured out a way to use icecat on trisquel or he uses some old outdated last packaged version of it
<sneek>Will do.
<nexussfan>updating my hurd...
<rrq>nexussfan: I added "extlinux" boot in crosshurd-image using syslinux' mboot module for multibooting a hurd
<nexussfan>okay
<nexussfan>hurd keeps hanging
<nexussfan>running fsck...
<nexussfan>disk i/o
<nexussfan>okay now apt is working again
<nexussfan>hey jab
<jab>nexussfan: whats up ?
<sneek>Welcome back jab, you have 1 message!
<sneek>jab, nexussfan says: he probably figured out a way to use icecat on trisquel or he uses some old outdated last packaged version of it
<jab>I just checked my junk email folder. I got another of those "give me bitcoin, or else I've send your credit card info on the black market."
<nexussfan>lol
<jab>apparently I'm a wanted man. Or I just use really bad passwords on my junk email account.
<nexussfan>does geany run on hurd/
<nexussfan>?
<jab>is that an email client ?
<nexussfan>geany is an IDE
<nexussfan>cmatrix doesn't run on hurd :(
<jab>what's cmatrix ?
<nexussfan>you know the code rain or whatever it's called from "The Matrix" movie
<Ribby>Isn't that proprietary license, cmatrix?
<sam_>no?
<sam_>it's gpl-3, why do you think that
<Ribby>It would be weird if there's a copyright law against the program.
<sam_>it's just a bunch of flying text, it's not copyrighted lol
<Ribby>Wonder what runs cmatrix?
<jab>Neo apparently uses it a lot. I think a guy called mouse too.
<Ribby>I want it to return some weather/updates feed.
<nexussfan>try emacs
<Ribby>It would still run the rain, but will drop text background/foreground, filling a text section and a prompt with nano interface.
<nexussfan>the program is mostly a fun program anyway
<nexussfan>for the kali linox masterhackers
<Ribby>I would leave the creativity up to them, since they made it.
<Ribby>Is cowsay in hurd distros?
<nexussfan>Yes
<Ribby>That's good to know. :)
<etno>nexussfan: Geany works very well on Hurd. Maybe not all plugins
<etno>The LSP one works, and there is clangd
<etno>(I am speaking of debian)
<nexussfan>nice
<etno>I got Bear to work recently with a series of small patches on 'grpc' and 'gperrtools'
<etno>If one runs 'bear make' in a C/C++ project, it will intercept compiler calls and build a 'compile_commands.json' file out of the info.
<etno>Geany+LSP+clang+bear gives a very precise navigation, macro expansion, func proto expansion and hover doc display
<etno>(also exact symbol usage)
<etno>For Hurd, doesn't give much more than ctags, but for gnumach, it finds the files matching with the current config
<azeem>AFAICT, the perl testsuite does not really have any tests for using local unix sockets
<Alicia>sneek: later tell nexussfan here's all I got on building icecat for now https://ion.nu/tmp/hurd_icecat/ I think we have to fix whatever is going on with rustc memory allocation before we can get any further
<sneek>Okay.
