<yang3>jab I will record the bootup screen, and I am using the first option "text install" <yang3>ata tc_bcount lost interrupt <jab> I was only encouraging you to record a video to help you debug. <jab>If you are installing just fine, then video is not really necessary. <jab>however, feel free to record a video to point out some of the glitches in the installer. There's bound to be a few. :) <yang3>hm, can -i put somne kind of a terminal output to record the bootup messages? <yang3>ata_tc_bcount 512/1024/4096.... <jab>probably. But I'm not sure how to go about doing that. <jab>recording the video is just an option. Don't feel obligated. :) <yang3>I need to find the Xiaomi magic moible holder stick, if I record it from the hand, it might shake <gnucode>yang3, honestly screenshots might be just a-ok. you'll be holding up that phone for a long time. :) <gnucode>by screenshots I mean, just taking a few photos with your phone as you come accross glitches. <gnucode>you could just send those photos to the mailing list. I'll be happy to add them to the wiki, if Samuel is ok with it. <sneek>nexussfan, you have 1 message! <jab>Lumy: I'm running it on real hardware on a T420 with 12GB of ram. i3, emacs, netsurf, all works. <jab>I'm happy to sell you one if you like: hurdos.com/store.html <Lumy>jab: but can you run it as a daily driver <jab>You won't be able to do your banking. We don't really have a good modern web browser. <yang3>the third link has a clear resolution <jab>Sergey had Ladybird running on the hurd at some point. <jab>which browser uses webkit ? <jab>than runs the hurd ? <jab>I'll have to try luakit then. <jab>Lumy: you won't be able to play video or listen to songs. Also we have almost no usb support. <jab>ladybird is going to be the next Firefox <jab>Lumy: you can run the Hurd & Linux at the same time via Xen. <nexussfan>Nah, ladybird started to fall off after it gained independence from serenityos <Lumy>you have browser support but nit audio or video? <jab>I believe this is what Samuel does. <jab>Lumy: contribution welcome. :) <Lumy>i would probably break everything xD <jab>Lumy: you can help me with the wiki editing if you like. We also could use some artwork. <jab>wanna design a svg logo for one of the hurd translators ? <Lumy>omg i want to make artworks <jab>If you can make a good cheap shirt, I'll buy one from you. <Lumy>jab: i am not like a company or something lul <gnucode>no worries. I'll make the T-shirts and sell 'em then. :) <Lumy>could i learn working on hurd though <jab>there are some ways to code translators in python or perl, but the support is not complete. <jab>nexussfan: does a lot of porting work. He just ported a minecraft server ? <nexussfan>jab: ported classicube, a minecraft classic recreation in C with some extra features <jab>I think coding in C is hard. <nexussfan>C is not that easy but it's also not impossible <jab>We also need LOTS of documentation stuff. wiki edits, the actual manual. <Lumy>i mean i wrote sone scripts like automation on my desktop <jab>also, I just had this idea. I think the Hurd should generate the documentation from the C source code. <jab>there are programs that let you do that. <jab>well, if the docs are in the source code...not always, but usually the docs stay in sync with the code as the code changes. <jab>damo22: may I ask why rumpdisk uses /dev/wd0 instead of /dev/hd0 ? Is it to easily indicate to the user that /dev/wd0 is rumpdisk and not dde ? <jab>as long as it keeps installing...it's got a few glitches unfortunately. <jab>watching the video now. <jab> yang3 that's the main boot up screen ? You haven't been able to get to the installer part right ? <yang3>that is past the main boot screen, after selecting lanugage, keymap <jab>hmmm luakit opens for me...but I don't see a url to go anywhere. <jab>yang3: and you are kind of stuck on the piixide1:0:0 lost interrupt bits? The installer is either hanged there or in an endless loop of spitting out lost interrupts ? <yang3>maybe the drive itself is damaged, I got this laptop second hand, so I dont know <yang3>it does boot Windows 7 though <jab>I think that laptop won't run the Hurd. <jab>The Hurd doesn't run on many hardware. :) <jab>You could try the flashing the image method and see if that works, but You might be toast. :) <jab>there's always the T60 <gnucode>software rendering is a little slow. <yang3>jab "You'll need to attach your spare SSD to your GNU/Linux machine via USB to SATA dongle. StarTech dongles are a good choice." I can try this...Could you point me to the Startech USB to SATA dongle, I would order one from TEMU/ALiexpress I guess? <yang3>not sure that i can buy one locally <yang3>I'd just order now, and wait until they ship it <gnucode>probably any SATA to usb dongle will work. <yang3>it seems I am unable to edit <yang3>Error: Failed to send mail: connect to localhost failed (Connection refused) connect to localhost failed connect to localhost failed (Invalid argument) no (more) retries! <nexussfan>I wonder if rumpnet can work with WiFi cards <damo22>nexussfan: yeah i already posted about that above <damo22>i havent tried but there is a driver you can link to <nexussfan>the page for rumpnet says right now only ethernet is supported as of now <nexussfan>i assume you would need some more porting to add support for wifi <damo22>yes but there is if_iwn as well as if_wm <damo22>i think you just link to that library and add the node name <damo22>plus there will be some missing firmware blob <jab>morning hurd family! <jab>I'm reading "Opening the door of your heart" by Ajahn Brahm. I've been wanting to read this book for years, and I finally can now!! If you want a really really good book, I'd recommend it. I am a committed Christian, but the Ajahn Brahm is super awesome! <jab>This morning the lesson was: "Who is the most important person in the world?" <jab>I answered in my head, "Jesus Christ of course." <jab>His answer was different, but equally good. <jab>"The most important person in the world, is the person you are with. Whoever is with you at this moment, treat them like they are the most important person in the world. It's understandable to want to cure your friends and addicts and people you care about who have problems. But caring comes before the cure." <yang3>I ordered the UGreen USB to Sata dongle. I hope that the drive isn't deep in the laptop, so I won't have to completely disassemble it, to get it out.... <jab>It's pretty funny that I'm sending reminders to myself! <jab>I'm noticing that luakit and netsurf are not running as smoothly as they should be. Sometimes I have to launch them with "gdb netsurf RET run C-C continue". weird. <jab>I've forgotten how to record the screen on the Hurd...I've done it before. I think I used the ffmpeg directly, but now I've got to look up the command again. <jab>there's a recordmydesktop package... <gnucode>I'm sure other people have thought of this before.... <gnucode>but it would be cool if the Hurd had xmppfs or ircfs <gnucode>there would be a logs dir that would have previous conversations. <gnucode>there would be maybe a "today" directory. Where you could open a file and just write to it to send a new chat message. <gnucode>This would make writing irc programs or xmpp programs sooo much easier! <Alicia>it would need to have a client constantly running to get the logs though, wouldn't it? <jab>how does one use rumpusbdisk ? <jab>and does rumpuskdisk work for usb storage devices ? <jab>ok nevermind. hurdusbdisk allows the hurd to access external hard drives via a SATA to usb converter. <jab`>damo22: the openBSD people just recommended that I could use a USB to HDMI capture device to record a hurd screencast. Is that something that we could do ? Or in other words...I would like to occassionally do a live hacking on the hurd and record the video / audio. I suppose that I could do record live hackings on the Hurd if I ran the Hurd in qemu... <jab>The hurd is really running well on my T420 <jab>Running the Hurd is pretty freaking sweat! hello yang! <jab>I've just emailed rms to see if he wanted to buy a GNU/Hurd laptop from me. <jab>gerrr....I can't seem to email from the Hurd...I'm probably doing something wrong again. <jab>I'm using msmtp, which I have used in the past for email. <jab>echo "hello there" | msmtp -a default jbranso@dismail.de <jab>I don't see any output that indicates anything is happening. <jab>no error, no warnings. nada. <jab>I might try just using emacs directly to send the email. <sobkas>It's easy to break fs with hurd when doing forced shutdown... <gnucode>I've got quite a wiki edits that I will be sending soonish. <gnucode>interestingly, when I do a type ina terminal ssh joshua@hurdos.com RET <gnucode>I see setsockopt socket 3 IP_TOS 184: Operation not permitted. <gnucode>I can still make the connection and log into hurdos.com. <yang3>sending email from emacs on hurd
