<p4r4D0xum>hurd is working on acer predator!
<nexussfan>nice
<p4r4D0xum>console hangs though, but it doesn't need 'noide'!
<Arsen>oh that sounds similar to what I got in qemu
<p4r4D0xum>Arsen: you mean console hang, to my knowledge hangs for years
<p4r4D0xum>on my elitebook everything used to work out of the box till recently
<p4r4D0xum>now it hangs after sshd.
<p4r4D0xum>reboot also stopped working
<Arsen>yeah the hang
<nexussfan>Does anyone here actually daily drive hurd? I can see it becoming a possibility especially with rumpnet + a working browser (surf)
<Arsen>I was trying to build a small C file on hurd to try something and failed
<p4r4D0xum>btw. if you log in immidiately after the boot everything works fine?
<Arsen>for a very brief time
<p4r4D0xum>Arsen: Still talking about real hardware here
<Arsen>then the font changes and input and output stops. and no, I only tried qemu
<Arsen>I thought you were asking me that question
<p4r4D0xum>Arsen: That happens in qemu
<p4r4D0xum>crazy stuff
<p4r4D0xum>i tried to ls the /dev
<p4r4D0xum>a lot of kernel messaging happened
<p4r4D0xum>and the console hanged
<p4r4D0xum>holly crap, x11 works!
<p4r4D0xum>I think the console issue maybe related to display
<p4r4D0xum>changed the monitor to dell/vga and even x11 works!
<p4r4D0xum>also no console hang occured
<p4r4D0xum>interesting, when I plugged a graphic card, eth stopped working
<azert>I think that there are a couple of nasty bugs indeed, one that can hang the system upon an ls of a directory full of translators, and the other related to the console and input
<azert>Personally, because of the second one, I always use the Hurd through ssh
<azert>The first one is a real issue only if you care about /dev /servers and other system directories like that that could as well be hidden to the user
<azert>Maybe the Hurd should have tests for things like that
<azert>I’m also pretty sure that there is a zero-day exploit rooming around, and that this was reported any solid_black, a Russian hacker, but never disclosed. Just so that jab knows what he is doing when offering Hurd hosting and that he be clear to his customers
<azert>well, not that Linux can be considered safer, a priori, in that regards ..
<azert>of course, solid_black is a “white hat” hacker, and professionals of security would have just been silent about something like that
<azert>in regards to the discussion of yesterday, furry doesn’t mean just gay, and if I was someone involved in politics or in unionism I would be worried that there is a profile with my nick on a furry website
<azert>you don’t know what is behind a furry costume.
<azert>if a radical reactionist faction gets full powers, furries may be targeted
<azert>“furries” will be treated like pedos and “simps” (OF paying users) will be treated as prostitution clients. They already have collected their personal ID it’s all listed in the databases. Porn will become a punishable addiction.
<azert>I hope this doesn’t happen, I wish much better for the future, but I can see this happening
<azert>with low probability but not zero. Many innocent people of course will be just framed
