<jab>and my hurd emacs is stuck and not accepting input.
<jab>grrr.
<jab>I find it soo annoying that the Hurd locks up on my all the time.
<jab>or maybe it's emacs in the console that's the issue.
<jab>ok hard shut off time.
<jab>also weird question...
<jab>I made a git repo of my hurd ~/ directory.
<jab>I did a "git clone sr.ht/~gnucode/hurd-hurd ."
<jab>I tried doing a "git reset --hard origin/master"
<jab>I think that's what I did. But my various ~/ files are not there. git says that I deleted my .bashrc and .profile for instance
<jab>hmmm libgccjit in /tmp
<jab>maybe libgccjit in emacs is causing some errors.
<jab>apparently "git restore filename" is what I wanted.
<nexussfan>btw, who owns gnu-hurd.com ? and how do you buy a hurd server from them?
<sneek>nexussfan, you have 1 message!
<sneek>nexussfan, jab says: I would love to run Xlibre on the Hurd. However, I think some debian developers may not allow it. https://rumble.com/v6ztoh2-debian-xlibre-is-not-allowed-devs-are-nazis.html?e9s=src_v1_cbl%2Csrc_v1_ucp_a https://lists.debian.org/debian-project/2025/10/msg00017.html Samuel seemed to be ok with it, hopefully you get it working.
<jab>nexussfan: I own gnu-hurd.com. :)
<nexussfan>oh
<jab>and how big of a server do you want?
<nexussfan>i'm not willing to buy
<jab>hahaha. I'm probably not able to sell yet either. I've had that site up for 5+ years now.
<nexussfan>Because there's a "pricing" section yet no online order page
<nexussfan>you could order with GNU taler for a libre online ordering page
<jab>yup. Does GNU taler "work" now?
<nexussfan>I don't use taler, but I've heard of real life uses.
<nexussfan>taler.net/en/news/2025-09.html
<nexussfan>also on gnu-hurd.com it says you get a 50% discount if you contribute to hurd
<nexussfan>does this mean the kernel or just anything hurd related
<jab>i've got the Hurd running on X again! nice!
<nexussfan>jab: What was the issue?
<jab>new computer.
<jab>I hadn't set it up yet.
<jab>It's a T60.
<jab>I also bought a T510, which works, but the current keyboard is crap. Whoever owned that T510 did not treat it well.
<damo22>you should open the case and check that the keyboard connector is firmly in place
<damo22>it could be a loose wire
<jab>damo22 I believe that it is firmly in case. almost every key on the keyboard works.
<jab>except for the return key and maybe one other key.
<jab>I'll double check that it is firmly in place. If it's not, I'll probably need to buy another keyboard to replace it. ebay sells laptops for parts pretty cheaply.
<jab>and it looks like I may already be in a weird spot on my T60.
<jab>any apt commands is saying to do a apt --fix-broken install
<jab>claiming that I have some problem with emacs...
<jab>sudo apt --fix-broken install tries to install "emacsen-common", but fails.
<jab>emacsen-common: dpkg invocation failed at /usr/lib/emacsen/common/lib.pl line 80
<jab>and my T60 has locked up again...
<gnu_srs1>sneek: Later tell jab that xlibre is available at Devuan: https://github.com/xlibre-deb/devuan
<sneek>Got it.
<kilobug>please remember that XLibre is mostly a single-person project, handled by someone who was kicked from XOrg for the poor quality of his work, and that is an open nazi apologist making him so toxic very few accept to work with him... I wouldn't advise anyone to touch that project even with thick gloves
<gnu_srs1>Does swap work on amd64 by now?
<azeem>it should, AFAIK
<youpi>yes
