<almuhs>hi
<sneek>Welcome back almuhs, you have 1 message!
<sneek>almuhs, youpi says: https://darnassus.sceen.net/~hurd-web/hurd/debugging/translator/
<almuhs>ok
<almuhs>where is defined file_name_lookup() ? I only find extern declarations
<youpi>sneek: later tell almuhs file_name_lookup is the client part of looking up a file, it's inside glibc, hurd/hurdlookup.c
<sneek>Got it.
<azert>Im experimenting with the 64bit port and virtualbox
<azert>I can consistently get failed assertions for DMA alignment in rumpdisk
<azert>which could be interesting considering the bugs we have with memory wiring and dma
<azert>how would you go on debugging that?
<azert>Is it possible to print all the allocations to the console and compare the failed assertions with the misallocations?
<tux0r>gnucode: just idling for now... sorry for digressing, somewhat :)
<gnucode>no worries.
<Franciman>AHOI
<gnucode>I certainly let the topic go haywire. :)
<gnucode>howdy!
<Franciman>do you use debian/hurd?
<tux0r>ah, i like haywires. sometimes.
<gnucode>have ya'll tried pianobar in Emacs? It's super awesome
<gnucode>I do use debian/Hurd in real hardware. I perfer it in real hardware. I use i3, emacs, and the netsurf web browser.
<gnucode>and dino-im works too!
<gnucode> https://gnucode.me/the-hurd-is-unbreakable.html
<nikolar>does guix hurd work :P
<gnucode>nikolar: yes. There's one guix developer "janke" I think. that uses it.
<gnucode>I don't know if it has internet access.
<nikolar>i don't see why it wouldn't, if the debian hurd does
<gnucode> https://guix.gnu.org/en/blog/2024/hurd-on-thinkpad/
<gnucode>well guix hurd is somewhat behind packaging what debian hurd has packaged.
<tux0r>yet, i hope
<gnucode>debian hurd has maybe 70% of the debian archive packaged.
<gnucode>and their 64-bit port is progressing nicely. I don't know anyone trying to run the 64 bit port on real hardware yet...but I am very much so wanting to try!
<gnucode>the 64 bit port had some issues with using SSDs and swaping, but there's someone working on fixing that issue. *fingers crossed*
<nikolar>well, we'll see
<tux0r>i would totally buy an ancient thinkpad for that.
<gnucode>I would recommend the T60 at least. My T43 is cool, but it's not a SATA hard drive.
<gnucode>and the T43 has a max 4 GB of RAM.
<gnucode>Honestly the T400 is probably fairly decent option in terms of price. You can still use libreboot, 8GB of max ram, and SSDs.
<tux0r>i had a T42 once
<tux0r>worked just well
<gnucode>The hurd does not yet support RAID. :(
<tux0r>for openbsd though.
<gnucode>OpenBSD is pretty fantastic! I am pretty impressed with it's code quality. I know, I haven't read it myself. I just read what other people tell me about it.
<tux0r>most of my servers run openbsd. because it has almost everything already OOTB, including mail and web services
<tux0r>no desktop, currently
<gnucode>OOTB ?
<tux0r>out of the box
<tux0r>for mail, i only added dovecot. for web, i added nothing. charming!
<gnucode>that's pretty awesome. I'm hoping to set up OpenBSD for me web/email server soon!
<gnucode>I'm going to be heading out here soon. It was nice chatting to you all. I hang out in #guix, #openbsd, #emacs, and #hurd a lot. Feel free to dm me if you ever want to chat direct to me via XMPP
<tux0r>good night, gnucode! if you have any questions about openbsd, i'm... in some channels! :D
<gnucode>sounds good!
<damo22>i think you can use storeio to make a kind of raid but not compatible with block raid from linux
<damo22>i think*
<youpi>I guess he meant a sata host in raid mode
