<apteryx_>in the context of evaluating expressions in Shepherd for in system tests, there's 'eval-there' from (gnu services herd)
<apteryx_>sorry, the above was meant for #guix
<ZhaoM>When I write an in-tree server that supports ioctl, what is the best way to check ioctl() will work on it? Compile and make install then write a small program running ioctl?
<ZhaoM>please ignore my last question, I just solved the issue :)
<hakanrw>has there been any plans for a experimental risc-v port of Hurd?
<youpi>I haven't seen anybody thinking about it
<youpi>like all such ideas, it's mostly a matter of somebody motivated enough to do it
<hakanrw>i see, thanks!
<hakanrw>does hurd currently work on any current arm SBCs, or is it VM-only?
<youpi>I don't know if it was tried on real hardware
<youpi>that's the kind of thing that is difficult with all the possibly-underdocumented devicetree things etc.
<hakanrw>thats true
<hakanrw>what about amd64? is it probable that a generic laptop might boot hurd?
<hakanrw>only display/keyboard is also fine
<youpi>the i386 images does boot fine on the various amd64 laptops I've had
<youpi>I haven't tried the amd64 image on my laptop
<youpi>normally should be fine
<hakanrw>sounds promising!
<hakanrw>i'll give it a try
<youpi>remember https://darnassus.sceen.net/~hurd-web/faq/drivers/
<hakanrw>thanks for the link. my expectations are very, very low; so if it even boots and displays anything, i'd be happy
<youpi>the link was already in the topic
<solid_black>hi!
<solid_black>re: riscv: anatoly was working on a gnumach port, if memory serves me right
<solid_black>and there was another attempt done by someone else too
<hakanrw>many thanks!
<AlmuHS>solid_black: i want to do my PhD about a Hurd port to RISC V. If someone is working in it, we can work together
<hakanrw>what is the latest status of the USB support? drivers page from september mentions ongoing work being done
<hakanrw>searching for irc logs yielded some results from damo22 from last year where they mention sending a patch for usb impl :)
<gnucode>hello friends!
<gnucode>off topic: I started reading a book today. "Switch" by Chip Heath & Dan Heath
<gnucode>It's talking about how to change (better yourself) when change is hard.
<gnucode>It's super interesting!
