<gnucode>hello friends!
<Gooberpatrol66>hello
<gnucode>Gooberpatrol66: what are you working on?
<Gooberpatrol66>reading papers on mach and rump, and trying to fix my audio on linux
<gnucode>oh. What papers ?
<Gooberpatrol66>"mach and matchmaker: kernel and language support for object-oriented distributed systems"
<Gooberpatrol66>"rump kernels: no os? no problem"
<gnucode>I heard it said the other day that they "mach interfaces" are really bad...
<gnucode>no idea what that means
<Gooberpatrol66>me neither
<azert>gnucode: I just meant that there are plenty of IDL languages today and I don’t find matchmaker appealing. But that is what we have so I don’t think it make sense to reimplement that if you want to reimplement Hurd in rust
<gnucode>sneek later tell azert I am not necessarily advocating that we re-write the Hurd in rust. Sergey seems to like the idea that we can use rust in the Hurd code base though. As someone who has never coded in rust...my main criticism of it is that it seems to be morphing into C++ with way too many features. I wish there was a memory safe C like language. less features.
<sneek>Okay.
