<gnucodeIRCIsConF>hey friends!
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>So I just tried using the latest Hurd 64 installer on real hardware (T400). I did see the cd's provided Grub boot image: Boot Installer, Expert Installer, Rescue
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>I chose the Rescue (I can't actually installer it for real)...at the moment
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>Anyway, it started to boot, I saw the black screen, I think I saw something about starting the Hurd servers...then I got this error message on repeat and the boot did not progress after this message:
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>Restarting the Hurd console:...xkbcommon: Error: Couldn't find a compose file for locale "C" (mapped to "C")
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>console: loading driver `pc_kbd` failed: Cannot allocate memory
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>I'm not telling anyone to fix this. Just reporting. :)
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>I used the 64 bit image found here: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ports/latest/hurd-amd64/current/
<gnucodeIRCIsConF>hey youpi, I just tried booting the 64 bit Hurd installer on my T400. It got stuck trying to restart the Hurd console, and it sounded like it failed to load the keyboard driver. The detailed error message on in the IRC logs. Just an FYI. Not telling you to fix it.
<youpi>it was already mentioned on the list yes
<azert>Hello, to add to what Sergei said in mail, I’ve taken notes about booting gnumach on aarch64
<azert> https://paste.debian.net/1330296/
<azert>Feel free to copy them it’s in the public domain
<azert>This should boot gnumach in the board solid_black mentioned
<solid_black>(tiny note, I prefer to spell my first name with an y at the end, not i)
<azert>Caveat, there was a cpu bug in the sense that there was some mysterious memory that would be writable and return 0xFF when read
<solid_black>also hi azert :)
<azert>Hi solid_black!
<solid_black>the gcc and hurd patches are upstream now
<solid_black>the rest looks still relevant
<azert>Nice, I think that the biggest contribution is how to deal with the boot loader
<azert>The boot from smart card was particularly fast, while booting from serial is a pain
<azert>I think I had patches for the uart I cannot find them
<azert>I’m pretty sure I still have them, can share if anyone is interested.
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>hello!
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>sneek: later tell azert thanks for the debian pastebin for how to use the AArch64 port!
<sneek>Okay.
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>sneek: later tell azert would you be willing to license the bit of code as GFDL 1.2+ ? That's what most of the wiki is licensed as. If it's licensed that way, it makes it easier to put that sort of thing in say the Hurd manual.
<sneek>Got it.
<youpi>gnucodeIrcIsAwes: he said it's in the public domain
<youpi>so even free-er than GFDL 1.2+
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>youpi: I thought I was under the impression our GNU overlords prefer the GFDL 1.2+ over the public domain most of the time.
<youpi>that's completely fine
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>if you're fine with public domain, then I am too.
<youpi>the latter can be casted to the former
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>ah. :)
<gnucodeIrcIsAwes>sneek later tell azert please do share the patches for the uart
<sneek>Okay.
<azeem> /w 30
<azeem>oops
