<gnucode>btw braunr is a former Hurd developer. He ported the Hurd from cthreads to pthreads.
<nikolar>cthreads?
<gnucode>The Hurd used to use cthreads (non-portable but faster).
<gnucode>braunr ported the Hurd to pthreads so he could get vim to work...if I remember correctly.
<nikolar>sorry, that doesn't make much sense to me
<gnucode>pthreads I believe is a portable thread library.
<gnucode>The Hurd did not always have pthreads. braunr ported pthreads to work on the Hurd. I believe.
<nikolar>ah so didn't port hurd to pthreads but other way around
<nikolar>pthreads is posix threads btw
<gnucode>sounds right I guess. idk. I'm not a developer either. :)
<youpi>it's Neil who wrote libpthread
<youpi>it's not a "port of pthreads", but an implementation of pthread
<youpi>then braunr helped on migrating translators to using the pthread API rather than the cthread API indeed
<nikolar>yeah what youpi said
<nikolar>that makes sense :)
<gnucode>stands to reason. youpi is probably smarter than I am.
<gnucode> Is anyone running a 64-bit on 32-bit Hurd ? Is that silly to even do since the full 64-bit port is getting near-er ?
<hwpplayer1>I am about to get involved Hurd documentation
<hwpplayer1>writing and translating
<hwpplayer1>Any mentors or similar position here to help us ?
