<lorenzo>Does the Hurd kernel have any potential? <lorenzo>It seems like it can be a really secure alternative <lorenzo>The only thing holding it back just seems to be enough devs/support <lorenzo>I believe once we have good enough 64 bit support, we can get more people to start using it <gnucode>lorenzo: you're welcome to help us make the 64-bit port more stable <gnucode>doesn't hurd support clock_getttime ? <youpi>it doesn't really have monotonic <youpi>that needs some support from the kernel <gnucode>do we still use the "external paging mechanism" <gnucode>If so, I can probably make that ASCII art look prettier. <youpi>I don't remember if it's what we use for mach-defpager & such, but probably <lorenzo>A lot of people say Hurd is dead, I don't think that at all <lorenzo>Theoretically, we could achieve higher security than BSD or Linux if it got more love <lorenzo>Don't stop Hurd team, we will make it happen! <gnucode>lorenzo: I'm not a massive contributer. I do the occasional wiki edit. I personally run the Hurd on a T43. Works fairly well. I'm using the i3 window manager. <damo22>its nice to have encouragement, but we really need more people to work on it <Gooberpatrol66>youpi: was gdb amd64 support in the todo list fixed by flavio cruz a while back? <youpi>Gooberpatrol66: yes, though it's not committed yet upstream <etno>The overall stability with i386+Dell1750 is really good as well. I have been using it for some time now.
