<nckx>ekaitz: I'm sure you can do something like (setenv "DESTDIR=../out") (invoke "zig" "build" "--prefix" #$output "install") or so to emulate a separate 'build phase, then manually copy ../out to #$output in 'install. <nckx>Are you writing a new build system to replace an existing one…? Or why would you have to modify all these packages? <ekaitz>nckx: that's more or less what it was done before <ekaitz>but the prefix had to be adjusted and the temporary build result would be in out/gnu.../ <ekaitz>not bad, but also a little bit against zig's ideas <ekaitz>i just merged the two phases together and adjusted 2 packages <ekaitz>i'm opening a pr instead of just pushing it just in case <nckx>I think I'm fundamentally misunderstanding something. Barring upstream bugs (beyond just the inconvenient choice of combining build+install) the prefix would not have to be adjusted in my example. <nckx>ACTION will read the PR I guess. <kernaltrap>has anyone found a fix for kio@5.116.0 not building? can't install Krita. also seems to be affecting the build server so its not just my system. <ekaitz>nckx: basically, the prefix was set wrong before so the build dir was cleaner <ekaitz>remote: Forgejo: Unexpected ref: refs/for/main/zig-merge-phases <kernaltrap>actually looking closer, more than one test is failing, i just didnt read the test output correctly <kernaltrap>the other ones that are failing are the KFileFilterComboTest::testSetMimeFilterDefault tests <kernaltrap>its searching for mime defs in both kcoreaddons 5 and 6 so maybe its some kde 6 stuff conflicting? not sure <nckx>kernaltrap: If you really need Krita but not the latest build you could try guix time-machine --commit=6e08fefac41fd2a06e94ec17125b4875fe9fdba1 -- install krita ? (Untested because it would take too long but I got that commit from https://ci.guix.gnu.org/build/25703446/details) <nckx>ekaitz: Assuming I didn't miss another user of DESTDIR, the whole old-destdir wrapper in 'check could go as well. Although something doesn't seem right about all of this. I'll have to play with it myself. <ekaitz>oooh i didn't check the 'check in detail <nckx><doesn't seem right> Not with your changes per se, but the original "--prefix" "" is weird to begin with, and if there's a cheap and correct way to use DESTDIR as intended to keep the conventional 2 phases, we should. <nckx>Guix doesn't ‘care’ but humans do, and having That One Weird Build System could confuse packagers even if it's technically correct. <nckx>I do agree with your patch line 153 but :) <ekaitz>this all was the kind of balance I was trying to find <ekaitz>but i didn't like the other possibility <ekaitz>nckx: the 'check phase is really interesting <ekaitz>if the tests create files, what should we do with them? <mra>hey! trying to define a custom guix package with the nonguix channel and a patch applied. I used options->transformation to define a transformation which applies the patch, and I thought it could just apply that transformation to (guix-for-channels my-channels), but this gives an error <mra>I can't figure out what the issue is. I can apply the transformation to the base guix package, and I can also build the package produced by guix-for-channels just fine, but combining them causes an error <mra>ekatwired: okay, then I'm trying to build a custom guix package which refers to some unspecified other channel which shall not be named <mra>the particulars of the channel don't matter to the issue that I'm having <ekatwired>I feel like i did know at some point but the data is just missing. <ekatwired>i need .net core in specific for my server stuff <Icy-Thought>still building config and donig some other stuff on the side :) <Icy-Thought>now I wonder what botsnak does besides feed or beloved bot <sneek>Icy-Thought was last seen in #guix one minute and 25 seconds ago, saying: hmmm. <ekatwired>untrusem: yea ik about mono but i need .net core for thingee <untrusem>ahh, no experience with .net here is a nuget importer iirc, check with "guix import <tab>" <mra>i've had some luck, but still having issues. i'm trying to customize the system-wide guix by adding a patch. i'm using a transformation corresponding to `--with-patch=guix=./my-patch.patch`, and then using modify-services to modify the `guix` fields of the guix service in %base-services <mra>when i reconfigure the system, this patched guix does seem to be built, and i can find it in the store, but the active `guix` command doesn't seem to be the patched one! <librecat>hmm i should give guix a second chance someday <librecat>i gave nix a few chances and started liking it <librecat>i use it for uniform development environment and webserver <librecat>guix is probably the best secondary or user level package manager <mra>untrusem: i need to apply hako's patches to the guix on my system so that i can actually reconfigure the system like normal with ZFS stuff <librecat>ok i got an actual question now: does guix handle airgap environment better? <librecat>how easy it is to keep a fully offline installation of guix running? <librecat>i very vividly remember how much you care about bootstrapping <acidbong>moin, guixers. why is Guix daemon's builddir is set with $TMPDIR envvar instead of a flag like `--build-directory`? <cbaines>acidbong, I think that decision goes all the way back to the nix-daemon <acidbong>cbaines: might be its old iteration, since Nix has had `build-dir` parameter for a while (and they also switched it to `/nix/var/nix/builds` last year) <cbaines>yeah, the guix-daemon effectively forked in development many years ago <acidbong>speaking of /tmp: given Guix still defaults to it for building drvs, is it not mounted to tmpfs on Guix System? <cbaines>and it can affect builds when a different filesystem is used <cbaines>I'm unsure, but I've seen builds fail when btrfs is used, building for i686-linux can have problems with larger inode numbers for example <stampede_>i changed /tmp to be tmpfs first thing in my guix system config lol <stampede_>i'm very concious about ssd life-span for some reason <stampede_>acidbong: it is cleaned up after the build finishes, whether it be succeeded or failed build. <Icy-Thought>someone guide me through this since I am lost... what xdg-desktop-portal would you use if you were to use a wayland wm? because <xdg...>-wlr does not contain a full set of xdg stuff and sometimes program segfault (noticed that in mango) <Icy-Thought>dbus is enabled in both home and system, GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: No such interface “org.freedesktop.portal.Inhibit” (with -wlr, -gtk and even -kde... idk why) <Icy-Thought>I tried another app, and it coplains about missing secret portal... thoguht kwallet enabled should've taken care of that.. <Icy-Thought>does gnome keyring work when you just enable the service? <stampede_>it does work... but i couldn't manage to get autounlock to work <stampede_>i switched to using the oo7 i packaged anyway <stampede_>hmm, when i use `busctl status` on the org.freedesktop.portal.Inhibit, it says no such device or address <Icy-Thought>Sorry for late reply but somehow my system is tripping... going to gc rebuild and reboot <stampede_>you did set up the portals.conf file for your compositor, right? <Icy-Thought>Never did anything like that on nix, iirc. Perhaps I am still doing this wrong <stampede_>maybe try setting up that file, and see if it fixes the issue. In your case i think it should be called mango-portals.conf i guess <Icy-Thought>stampede_: Oh that.. I wonder why its not added to thr package itself tbh since niri does it otb <stampede_>no clue, i did check the niri package and saw it had that, maybe the mango devs didn't add it to the package? <apoorv569>ATM it supports basic features like interface, DHCP, DNS, NAT, Firewall etc.. no advanced or enterprise level features ATM. <Alavi_me>I use Guix on top of arch, currently I have an env.sh file which defines all the env variables that I want to set on my system. I would rather specify them in my guix config instead, so my declarative configs are more in one place <untrusem>apoorv569, someone else had a guix router project <apoorv569>untrusem: Could you share a link to that project? I could not find any when I search for it. <untrusem>you can find it on fedi I think, let me look for it <untrusem>Icy-Thought, did you build the new noctalia? <Icy-Thought>untrusem: Tbh I got very busy, I can do that in a couple of hours if you can wait <untrusem>just wanted a user who uses it to give review, you would have already build it <stampede_>i have build it like 3 times now lol, but not the latest change <untrusem>`guix build --check -P1 <package> ` for reproducibility <stampede_>it was only 1 file that i was using cons on, but they i say that sergey's PR also added two more, so i changed it to include that <stampede_>i apologize for frogetting to build the last change, it totally slipped my mind <stampede_>sneek: later tell Alavi_me , you can use the home-environment-variables-service type to set those env vars <sneek>Welcome back Alavi_me, you have 1 message! <sneek>Alavi_me, stampede_ says: , you can use the home-environment-variables-service type to set those env vars <apoorv569>untrusem: This seems more like someone's person guix config to act as a router, Routix however is a custom OS based on GNU Guix, and has its own DSL to configure the router. <apoorv569>I could be wrong, I just took a quick look at this guixrouter link you shared.. <stampede_>I mean, when it comes to a declarative distro like guix, the line between a config for guix and an OS based on guix is quite blurry <apoorv569>stampede_: I can agree with that.. I guess you could say Routix provides convinient syntax.. Though I will be eventually cutting things down, removing services, packages, maybe even have custom command mode or something like cisco, vyos and all have. <stampede_>yeah, i took a look at your repo and you seem to be using a custom syntax to define the router os <stampede_>too bad i don't have anything to try this on <stampede_>unless i could somehow flash my router to use linux lol <apoorv569>I would not advice to use this for production ATM, its very new project probably has lots of bugs.. You could try it in a VM, that's where I tested it. I gave the VM 2 virtual NIC and set one as WAN other as LAN. <apoorv569>You can install base guix in the VM then use `guix deploy` to deply a example config or write your own. There is no documentation ATM coming soon.. <cooldev>a few weeks ago I tried to build some go packages (tag "v1.5")in guix using --check flag but none of them were reproducible. Today I tried building those same packages again and somehow all the packages are getting built successfully and are now reproducible. Has anything changed during the past few weeks regarding this? <cooldev>I think substitute availability has improved but can't confirm yet. <stephen>I dont fully understand the issue with the graphs and the debug packages that download. Does anyone have a writeup on it? I ran a too egregious gc and now I'm going to be waiting a few hours for debug packages to downloa d again. <stampede_>i'm not sure if i got the right idea on my comment on #7736, but if i'm right, then the fix should be trivial <stampede_>idk guile enough tbh to attempt making a PR on it lol
