<apteryx>jlicht: hello! I've been a bit behind with the javascript branch as of late; anything I should look into? I'll try the current branch with my WIP packaging work to see if everything functions as expected.
<Heterochromium>ieure: I once heard that hibernating with a swap file is possible with appropriate configurations (apparently telling the kernel or maybe GRUB where exactly on disk the swap file lies). But I haven't confirmed that myself.
<apteryx>Is anyone working on KDE? I believe now would be a good time to update it, with Qt 6.12.0 in Guix.
<rkazak>Hi all, I have just done a 'guix pull' + ' ... reconfigure' and after completing these two command and rebooting my machine I find that I cannot ping hosts outside of my local network, anyone seen something similar?
<apteryx>did you see something about /etc/resolv.conf in the NEWS? If not, try `rm /etc/resolv.conf` and `herd restart NetworkManager`, as root.
<Sneed1911>rkazak: what does you /etc/resolv.conf look like?
<apteryx>rkazak: ^
<apteryx>assuming you haven't hand-modified /etc/resolv.conf :-)
<rkazak>ok will try - thank you.
<rkazak>AH yes that was it, my resolv.conf was empty?!?
<apteryx>do we have a means to select `(,some-package "some-output") via (this-package-native-input ...) ?
<apteryx>haha, openjdk11 and 12 can actually bootstrap with openjdk9!
<apteryx>ACTION continues trying to shorten the bootstrap
<cnx>hello guix, is it normal for cuirass to build packages sequentially?
<cnx>i should set up local remote workers it seems
<untrusem>looks like i need another machine for all the building I have to do now
<untrusem>my t480 can handle my tasks but not with all the builds :/
<apteryx>did we have a make target to check orphaned patches?
<haugh>yeah same here untrusem, dedicated build box would be pretty helpful about now
<jlicht>apteryx: that’d be great, indeed. do you know if the branch is actually being build somewhere by ci/qa? I see nothing currently
<jlicht>actually no, I finally see it, from what I can tell, it’s looking good?
<ennoausberlin>Hello guix, are you aware that the issue tracker web frontend produces error 500 for every search?
<sham1>Do you mean codeberg or the mailing list?
<haugh>ennoausberlin, codeberg issue search has been unusable for me unless logged in
<yarl>I think ennoausberlin is referring to the old issues.guix.gnu.org
<yarl>Now, issues are on codeberg.org/guix/guix/issues
<ennoausberlin>yarl: Oh, I missed the transfer completely and this is considered old
<yarl>ennoausberlin: https://guix.gnu.org/blog/2025/migrating-to-codeberg/
<ennoausberlin>haugh: I see. I am not sure, if this is good practice
<ennoausberlin>yarl: The codebase transfer I was aware, issue tracker not :)
<yarl>Well, every problem on issues.guix.gnu.org have _not_ been transfered/migrated to codeberg. I consider it's a problem the search there does not work because of this.
<apteryx>hm, and the classic debbugs web interface is not working either (too slow): http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/pkgreport.cgi?which=pkg&data=guix
<apteryx>jlicht: I guess it is; was there something waiting for review to merge still?
<apteryx>if you really need the debbugs instance, emacs-debbugs is still working to access it via the SOAP interface
<sham1>I wish we had a SOUP interface instead
<sham1>(Bad pun, I know)
<jlicht>apteryx; I got everything in that I cared about; there's still some stuff for javascript-team that targets master, but we can do that after the merge (as I believe it needs to be rebased after the merge either way)
<apteryx>jlicht: good; I'll test with my stuff and see if everything works.
<jlicht>apteryx: Andreas still rebased the branch, but I doubt it has any impact on the js-related branch of the package tree
<jlicht>we could still choose to not graft brotli (as the node.js packages directly depend on the "fixed" brotli). Above my pay grade, so to say: https://codeberg.org/guix/guix/issues/11993
<Air4x>Hey everybody, does anyone have some resources about setting up a common lisp development environment on guix? I was trying to set up something with guix shell following the cookbook, but I don't know how to tell SLIME to connect to the interpreter inside the container and not the one in my home profile
<csantosb>Good morning Guix ! Anyone else having trouble when linting ?
<csantosb>fetching CVE database for 2026...
<csantosb>... guix/ui.scm:1034:18: Throw to key `bad-response' with args `("EOF while reading response body: ~a bytes of ~a" (1782939 38878167))'.
<apteryx>I've added powerpc64le to my binfmt service config (https://paste.guixotic.coop/powerpc64le-in-binfmt-config.html), but 'guix build hello --no-substitutes --system=powerpc64le-linux' fails with 'while setting up the child process: in phase exec: executing `/gnu/store/gl9i9mvymcn9i542gx138avfcl3aw96c-guile-3.0.9/bin/guile': No such file or directory'; that's odd
<apteryx>csantosb: it's so slow to download the cve database I usually use -n
<apteryx>ah! (lookup-qemu-platforms "powerpc64le") -> '(). Would be more useful if it failed.
<apteryx>it's called ppc64le, just to trip us a bit ^^
<hako>apteryx: re select output: how about #$(gexp-input (this-package...) "output") ?
<apteryx>ah yes, that should work, thanks
<lechner>Hi, what are guix-directory-* folders in the store, please? They are not prefixed with the customary hashes, and read root only.
<apteryx>I'm not sure why I understand why using (substitute-keyword-arguments arguments ...) results in something else than (substitute-keyword-arguments (package-arguments base)), inside a package that has (inherit base) ?
<ieure>lechner, They seem to come from `call-with-temporary-directory-in' in (guix scripts substitute). The procedure seems to delete them, so they must be left over from some kind of process crash.
<lechner>ieure: Thanks! The script that publishes my store index to http://find.juix.org choked on them.
<look>any known way to cross-refresh a package hash using guix refresh? e.g. I'm on x86-64-linux and want to guix refresh the hash for aarch64-linux instead
<ieure>look, Your question doesn't make sense to me, `guix refresh' operates on package definitions, which are not architecture-specific.
<ieure>Your package has different sha256 checksums per architecture? Only way that makes sense is if it's a package that doesn't build from source.
<look>yes, you are correct, its the latter case, for which the package source is arch-dependent
<look>For instance, if I'm on a x86 host, guix refresh correctly refreshes the x86 hash. If I'm on aarch64 host, guix refresh correctly replaces the aarch64 hash
<look>Not a big deal, but would save me ~5s for every refresh, if it was somehow possible. I think I'll see if I can make an extension and try to parameterize %current-system (should probably?? work)
<ieure>look, What package? I have never encountered a package with architecture-specific hashes.
<look>ieure, the package in question is on my personal channel, but I think guix itself had some magical source stuff in 'gnu/packages/bootstrap.scm' (the last time I checked)
<look>not sure if still there, cant check rn
<Heterochromium>How do the veterans here maintain their Emacs customizations on Guix System? Do they use `~/.emacs.d/init.el` like any other distro, or does Guix have something more?
<dariqq>csantosb: Is the emacs-minimal change in 1783a3ff893254c858de9bb383e52547c79f4054 intentional?
<ieure>Heterochromium, I use the normal ~/.emacs.d/init.el, but use Guix Home to install it.
<ieure>Heterochromium, Emacs packages get installed by Guix, I like it better than any of the Emacs-based mechanisms. Some of that stuff is in my channel: https://codeberg.org/ieure/atomized-guix/src/branch/main/atomized/home/profiles.scm#L105

<meaty>hi guix
<ieure>Hello.
<meaty>was gonna ask about container networking but found the cookbook chapter for it \o/
<lechner>👍️
<meaty>actually, that article is not as applicable for my situation. does anyone have an example of a guix-configured container providing services from within a container service running on a guix host?
<meaty>with networking from the container to the "outside world"
<jungy>Can you open up a network port for traffic without it being associated with a service?
<stampede_>Hello, i'm looking to package noctalia-greeter (https://github.com/noctalia-dev/noctalia-greeter). I added the package to gnu/packages/admin.scm, but now i want to also make `noctalia-greeter-service-type` (to make `var/lib/noctalia-greeter` to allow theme syncing with noctalia-shell). My question is which module should that service be placed in?
<stampede_>I also want to make `greetd-noctalia-greeter-session` for use with `greetd-service-type`, but I assume that goes in gnu/services/base.scm like the rest of the greetd greeters like nwg-hello, etc.
<olivial>is it normal that 'guix system image' does the "updating channel 'guix'" and "Computing Guix derivation" things several times?
