<civodul>Hello Guix!
<Svetlana>Hi
<phant0mas>hello
<mongrol>r
<sneek>Welcome back mongrol, you have 1 message.
<sneek>mongrol, civodul says: did you manage to run Xorg in "qemu -vga std"? i get "mmap fbmem: Invalid argument"
<mongrol>yes I did sneek
<mongrol>actually, no. I didn't get the install to go as far as X
<civodul>mongrol: you mean the config used 'xorg-service' and 'guix system install' failed?
<mongrol>ooh, can't say. Don't have the log
<mongrol>and that was 4 weeks ago
<mongrol><- brain like a sieve
<mongrol>I'll give another go soon
<mongrol>I got fedup with not being able to cut n paste into QEMU :)
<civodul>heh :-)
*civodul just got one of those RYF-stamped wifi dongles :-)
<civodul>jxself: do you think http://jxself.org/ath9k-htc/ is a good source for the firmware? :-)
<civodul>i guess we should provide a package that builds it from source, per http://jxself.org/ath9k-htc/README
<civodul>the "How do I build it" section is slightly scary though
<jxself>civodul: It could be but their own git repo seems more official to me.
<jxself>But building it isn't hard.
<jxself>make toolchain and then make -C target_firmware.
<jxself> https://github.com/qca/open-ath9k-htc-firmware
<jxself>And drop the two .fw files into /lib/firmware I think it is and ta da.
<civodul>jxself: i'll try that, then
<civodul>jxself: any idea why that firmware is in non-free in Debian?
<civodul>is it a leftover from when it actually was non-free
<civodul>?
<jxself>Yes.
<civodul>ok, good
<jxself>I assume that they'll update tot his new one at some point.
<jxself>er to this
<civodul>yeah
<jxself>Then again, it's been 1.5 years already. I'd have thought that was enough time.
<jxself>Perhaps the Debian Project just like their non-free things and doesn't want to let go?
<civodul>i would assume good faith
