<civodul>hey there!
<civodul>stumbled upon this job offer: https://calcul.math.cnrs.fr/job_1852e6a6db25b8b86106f678d94abbc4.html
<efraim>the green background they use wrecks havoc on my eyes when I scroll
<civodul>heh :-)
<civodul>it must be part of the recruitment strategy
<zimoun>hi!
<civodul>hey zimoun!
<zimoun>civodul, I have read your email about man-db (yeah, hard to tackle habbits ;-)). I have not tried the code. If the indexing is faster and the addition of Xapian as a dependency is not an issue. It seems a good idea.
<civodul>zimoun: heh, cool! :-)
<civodul>i don't think indexing will be faster
<civodul>the goal would be to have a separate tool for searching documentation
<civodul>and that tool would update databases/indexes lazily
<civodul>on the Guix side, we'd just remove the mandb hook and profit :-)
<zimoun>that’s cool! It is something I recently brainstormed (privately) to Emacs folks answering to one of many hot threads. Include to Emacs a local “search engine” for Info.
<civodul>zimoun: ah yes
<civodul>i found the Helm thing for Info in Emacs was quite good
<civodul>but anyway, i think we need to have a tool that's better than search engines
<rekado>guile-xapian has an undiagnosed segfault that is triggered by goggles
<civodul>bah
<civodul>it's unfortunate that it uses SWIG
<civodul>not that avoiding it would fix all problems, but still
<zimoun>rekado: is it reported somewhere?
<rekado>zimoun: I reported it to Arun, but I have no diagnostics that would help fixing it.
<zimoun>rekado: ah )-:
<civodul>uh, is Parmetis non-free? https://issues.guix.gnu.org/47613
