<rekado_>civodul: should I propose it on guix-devel and ask for the colour of the bikeshed to be discussed?
<civodul>hey rekado_!
<civodul>which bikeshed are you referring to?
<civodul>the transform DSL? http://logs.guix.gnu.org/guix-hpc/2020-09-28.log
<rekado_>civodul: yes the DSL: http://logs.guix.gnu.org/guix-hpc/2020-09-28.log#220024
<civodul>rekado_: ah sure, why not
<civodul>OTOH we don't have all the options yet :-)
<rekado_>I suppose I could include a patch to get the ball rolling
<civodul>yup
<civodul>i'd like to make options->transformations public, too
<civodul>which means tweaking the interface (removing 'store')
<rekado_>hmm: https://www.flatkill.org/2020/
<civodul>interesting
<civodul>the last bit (fonts, etc.) is something we know very well :-)
<rekado_>yes, I thought so too!
*civodul .oO let's hope that person doesn't register guixkill.org
<civodul>at least we're not claiming to be "the future of linux apps"
<civodul>(rather: the future of computing)
<rekado_>yeah, I don’t like these single-purpose sites that collect criticism of a tool
<rekado_>same with systemd
<rekado_>it just comes across as … unconstructive, angry, reactionary even.
<rekado_>but I thought: there are some similarities with flatpak and Docker
<civodul>yeah, and even if they have a point, it's very name-and-shame and worse ("kill")
<civodul>oh sure
<rekado_>runtimes ~ base image
<civodul>we've been lumping them in the same category
<civodul>yeah it's the same story
<rekado_>and a lot of the problems are thus the same, too
<civodul>they use a different marketing strategy: "linux apps" vs. "containers"
<rekado_>e.g. unpatched dependencies, lack of transparency, etc
<civodul>yeah
***rekado_ is now known as rekado
