<xentrac>TeX was originally written in Pascal, sort of. the C version came later <xentrac>and I think you can run current LaTeX on original TeX83 <xentrac>ekaitz: well, it was written in WEB, which is a mixture of TeX and Pascal <xentrac>with some macro-processing facilities to shore up some of the weaknesses of standard Pascal <xentrac>so the TANGLE program from WEB extracts the Pascal chunks and macro-processes them and puts them in the order that a Pascal compiler wants them, for example with no references to things that haven't been previously declared <xentrac>and the WEAVE program from WEB extracts the TeX chunks and formats the Pascal into TeX so that you can typeset it and publish the program as a nice-looking paper book <xentrac>I'm a little bit unclear on what exactly CWEB takes as input to produce the version of TeX you can compile with a C compiler <xentrac>I don't even know if it's the original Pascal source, or if it's a version where the Pascal chunks have been replaced with C <xentrac>but anyway the source code in the printed book entitled "TeX: The Program" is Pascal. sort of. <aggi>xentrac: i've settled with TeTeX from year 2006, the entire stack including ghostscript, gnuplot etc. passed compilation/static-linking with tinycc <aggi>i've too had a look at original TeX from Knuth, and found it's build-system incomprehensible <aggi>maybe Texlive is a better choice, but it's 10fold the size round about <xentrac>that's fantastic! I don't think of GhostScript and Gnuplot as being part of TeX at all ;-) <AwesomeAdam54321>xentrac: if I'm not mistaken, texlive uses web2c to convert from WEB to C <stikonas>for a while I thought it was GCC13 -> GCC15 upgrade that broke things but turns out it was my own bug <ekaitz>stikonas_: what does "Received ) in primary_expr" mean in M2-Planet? <ekaitz>stikonas: maybe for (bla; ble;) is not allowed? <ekaitz>also i had a for with a comma and it didn't like that <ekaitz>oh yeah but I cannot share scope in a fallthrough <stikonas>they have been there from the very beginning <stikonas>goto is after all very simple to implement
