<wildwestrom>cosinusoidally: For the task of porting, the way you keep the LLM on the straight and narrow is to set up a test harness, instruct the bot to always run the test, and error messages and test failures should act as verification without too much manual intervention. Claude Code or Codex CLI work great for these purposes.
<wildwestrom>Copilot and other autocomplete engines are old news and kinda trash. They just get in my way more than anything. An interesting innovation at best.
<wildwestrom>What sort of acceptance test to use to make sure it doesn't diverge, I'm not sure. Also, GCC, or even TCC is big enough that it would probably require sub-agents to prevent too much drift. Context rot is very real.
<wildwestrom>Now, for cost. On a 20$ a month subscription, you might be able to get it all done in a couple weeks. On API billing, and a sophisticated arbitrage system (where you have some way to determine if you can use a dumber model for some tasks), you're looking at anywhere between 5000-100$ for the full port. Then again, I'm pulling these numbers completely out my ass.
<matrix_bridge><Andrius Štikonas> new models have fairly huge context don't they? Claude Opus 4.6 comes with 1M
<matrix_bridge><Lance Vick> FYI just pushed my first example package to the sources repo: https://codeberg.org/stagex/sources/src/branch/main/curl.json
<matrix_bridge>Hope to have many more, and tooling for this soon, so we can use almost anything as a normalized mirror and add new mirrors easily with swhids as the immutable source of truth we can pin in our respective projects: https://codeberg.org/stagex/sources/src/branch/main/curl.json
<matrix_bridge><Lance Vick> derp on double URL paste, but editing will only make it worse for IRC users.
<matrix_bridge><Lance Vick> If we generally think this format is viable, I can write up a proper spec next.
<wildwestrom>How do I use the matrix bridge? I'm using Gamja and have to check the archives whenever I close the page.
<wildwestrom>Andrius Štikonas: Yes, Opus 4.6 does have 1M worth of context. That doesn't mean it retrieves everything in the back of the window flawlessly.
<matrix_bridge><Andrius Štikonas> wildwestrom: just join matrix room #bootstrappable:stikonas.eu
<wildwestrom>Hell yes! Thank you.
<matrix_bridge><wildwestrom (@wildwestrom:nitro.chat)> Nice!
