<matrix_bridge><cosinusoidally> I've been playing around with some old versions of Slackware. It's amazing how quickly GCC and the Linux kernel build on a circa 2001 distro using a single (circa 2012) i5 core. GCC builds in less than 2 mins and the kernel builds in less than 1 min (I'm building a usermode Linux kernel, but I think even a standard config builds in a reasonable amount of time).
<matrix_bridge><cosinusoidally> tccboot is interesting, but I think a "gccboot" is potentially viable.
<oriansj>cosinusoidally: yeah Wirth's law holds surprisingly well
<oriansj>theruran: another old format LaserDisc could be optically inspected and provide up to 3.28GB of storage but honestly if we can keep live-bootstrap's core under 700MB tradidtional CDs may probably remain the optimal solution.
