<xentrac>OriansJ: Michigan drama: https://twitter.com/GovWhitmer/status/1243362096118521856
***mniip_ is now known as mniip
<fossy>welp done that
<fossy>now i need to move variable expansion before tokenization
<fossy>otherwise programs act very weirdly
<xentrac>hmm, I think in bash variable expansion happens after splitting into words, but there's a separate splitting-into-words process for variable expansion output
<fossy>hmmm
***ChanServ sets mode: +o rekado
<OriansJ>fossy: kaem is yours to expand, just keep it buildable and working from M2-Planet at all times. If there are breaking changes inform and assist in migration of the parts of the bootstrap that need to be fixed of those breakages.
<OriansJ>xentrac: Michigan's drama is a bit messy right now but we will be fine.
<fossy>OriansJ: I have kept compatibility with -f
<vagrantc>janneke: i didn't know you did a libreplanet talk this year
<janneke>vagrantc: me neither :P
<vagrantc>janneke: hrm?
<vagrantc>janneke: you prepared it but didn't present?
<janneke>two days before the event they invited lightning-talks from all over the planet
<janneke>so, then i rushed a talk in :-)
<vagrantc>nice
<janneke>yeah, that was quite an opportunity
<vagrantc>i was tempted to try the same, but had too much else going on
<janneke>oh, that's too bad
<vagrantc>i had originally proposed a talk, but decided against doing two weekends of conferences back-to-back ... had i known it would've been virtual... heh.
<vagrantc>janneke: aw, you even stuck me in the thanks. :)
<vagrantc>i only noticed as i did a pull earlier, wondering if there were any updates :)
<janneke>hah :)
<vagrantc>only branch updated was wip-talks...
<vagrantc>sparking curiosity
<janneke>vagrantc: sure, you've been a great help
<janneke>yeah, i can imagine
*vagrantc still hasn't explored the deeper down laters of m2planet and mescc-tools-seed and all that
<janneke>been very busy with guix integration, hurd work, some pinebook stuff as you well know
<vagrantc>s,laters,layers,
*vagrantc nods
<janneke>i'll be working on the full-source prototype in a while, removing mescc-tools and mes bootstrap binaries from guix
<janneke>well, that's what i'm planning anyway
<janneke>next you know it, someone comes along and wants to play :-)
<janneke>i think removing those binaries is important, as is the next step to replace guile with mes
<janneke>but it may be strategic to broaden first, and do ARM, e.g.; maybe some debian ;)
<vagrantc>a proof of concept debian bootstrap would be ... amazing.
<vagrantc>getting it for real ... well, that would be an adventure.
<vagrantc>although the cross-bootstrapping efforts help with that
<janneke>yes...
<janneke>it could help a lot with raising of awareness
<vagrantc>sure
<dddddd>janneke, "in a while" you mean this weekend or...? (I have this M1.scm almost complete for you to use; would be nice to know the time frame)
<janneke>dddddd: oh, no -- rather in the coming weeks
<janneke>but that's amazing!
<dddddd>noted, more time to polish. thanks
<Hagfish>(there's so much exciting work being done by people in this channel. i wish there were a project tracker where i could see a high level view of all the tasks, and maybe new people could pick up unassigned ones)
<civodul>janneke: oh didn't know about the LibrePlanet talk, cool!
<janneke>civodul: there's no hiding, i see
<vagrantc>janneke: first step to hide: don't publish in publicly accessible repositories :)
<janneke>vagrantc: that's asking much...
<civodul>:-)
