<civodul>Hello Guix!
<civodul>yeah, guix lint!
<Steap>civodul: that's some good shit, I guarantee it
<tadni>civodul: A question on the 0.7 image; will it have a default xsession, or will I need to set that up manually?
*tadni is excited.
<svetlana>one might expect a proper installer to /offer/ the user to choose what gui they'd like to run... (gnustep or gnome or whatever) so that there's no "default"
<civodul>Steap: yup, looks cool!
<civodul>just mailed a review
<civodul>tadni: at the moment it's sort-of hardcoded to use WindowMaker
<civodul>i'm not sure we'll have time to improve that before the release
<civodul>but yeah, i agree with svetlana for the longer term goal
<tadni>civodul: Ah, well that's a bit of a bummer ... but I suppose a gui, is better than no gui at this point. As long as I can have emacs and icecat, too the wm is largely irrelevant to me.
*tadni wants to eventually port his stumpwm config to guile-wm though. :^)
<tadni>svetlana: Yeah, and I'm sure such things will come with time ... I'm just impatient. :^)
<tadni>civodul: I'm assuming there's not a slim service active?
<civodul>there is one
<tadni>Oh, yah!
<tadni>Are we still looking for default/custom images for these things?
<tadni>I saw grub, has some sort of image via the commits.
<civodul>you mean pictures?
<civodul>yes, still interested in it
*tadni might have a go at some mockups in the next couple of days, on this front then.
<civodul>cool!
<tadni>What should the actual content be, the guix logo ... the/a gnu head?
<civodul>i'd say a GNU thing with a tiny Guix logo in the corner
<tadni>We really need a modernized GNU head, in-general, I think.
<civodul>tadni: one that i like is that of the Gnus splash screen, and another one is http://www.gnu.org/graphics/runfreegnu.html
<tadni>Well, that's a sign if any to head to bed... I'll be back later today or tomorrow
<civodul> http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/gnu-linux-libre/2014-07/msg00012.html
<davexunit>woo!
<civodul>maybe you can go and knock on johns' door to make sure things go smoothly ;-)
<davexunit>how does the approval process work, anyway?
<davexunit>I notice that this is the gnu-linux-libre mailing list
<davexunit>I guess eventually this issue will end up in the FSF's licensing ticket queue
<civodul>IIUC this is peer review, with the FSF making the final approval
<davexunit>okay, makes sense.
<jxself>davexunit: johnsu01 & jgay are on the mailing list too.
<davexunit>jxself: ah, I see. thanks.
<mark_weaver>Hello Guix!
<civodul>howdy, mark_weaver !
<mark_weaver>exciting times for Guix :)
<civodul>i think so :-)
<mark_weaver>I played some more with the standalone Guix install on my X60. It's impressive how quickly I can install packages when my personal profile is small and when substitutes are enabled.
<mark_weaver>I noticed a few more problems last night.
<civodul>aah, we were about to have a shortage of bugs ;-)
<mark_weaver>openpty doesn't work for me. I have to unmount /dev/pts and remount it with options "gid=1004,mode=620" for things to work properly.
<mark_weaver>(things such as screen, shells within emacs, and 'script')
<davexunit>I generated a new install image and tried it out, but the installed system then kernel panicked. :(
<civodul>mark_weaver: oh, can you file a bug?
<mark_weaver>but I'm unsure of how best to find out the gid corresponding to 'tty' from the code that mounts /dev/pts.
<mark_weaver>civodul: okay
<civodul>the problem is that i've just added a devtmpfs mount, but /dev/pts must be mounted after
<civodul>something not really supported yet
<civodul>davexunit: argh, could you try to get more info?
<davexunit>civodul: yeah, I'll try again tonight, I haven't been able to touch a computer at home the past few days so I can't offer anything meaningful right now.
<mark_weaver>civodul: also, I managed to rebuild guix from git from within standalone guix, but then when I try 'guix system reconfigure', it fails to install grub. the error message hides all information about what went wrong though.
<davexunit>I think it is another /dev node problem, where the /dev nodes I use during installation are not the same used when booting and things get screwed up.
<mark_weaver>civodul: I wonder if we should wait another week or so before the release. we could probably make things work a lot better in that time.
<mark_weaver>I just finished the housing move last night, so I'll have a lot more time to work on it.
<civodul>cool
<civodul>problem is i'm going on vacation this week-end (roughly)
<civodul>:-/
<mark_weaver>ah, okay.
<civodul>but yeah, i suspect it won't be ready tomorrow
<mark_weaver>well, maybe we should wait 2 weeks. well, just an idea...
<mark_weaver>civodul: can you clear all cached failures for MIPS on hydra?
<mark_weaver>btw, the IP address of the mips build slave changed (moved to the new house)
<mark_weaver>going afk for a while...
<civodul>mark_weaver: i've cleared the failed builds
<taylanub>can anyone confirm that our IceCat (v24 here) renders sRGB and iCCP PNGs wrong? http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/png-gammatest.html I'm on Debian BTW, might be relevant. Also, after setting gfx.color_management.mode to 0 in about:config and restarting IceCat, the "gamma 1/1.6" and iCCP ones render wrong this time. people in #emacs tell me their FF renders it all right by default
