<PurpleSym>nckx: What about this :libera.chat room? Can we also migrate it to :matrix.org?
<nckx>PurpleSym: Can do.
<PurpleSym>(Not sure what’s going on on the technical side, to be honest. Just saw the topic in #guix:libera.chat)
<nckx>Did you read the link (which didn't linkify ☹)? I can't explain it much better than that, but the high-level result is that EMS (matrix.org) previously ‘exposed’ all Libera channels through the :libera.chat bridge, but it's going away. Now *each* channel that we want visible from the Matrix side has to be explicitly created (as I've just done for #guix-hpc:matrix.org) and then bridged. The latter is a buggy process that often fails wi
<nckx>thout an error message. Which is why I'm in a stellar mood.
<PurpleSym>Yeah, I read it, but I have no idea what the difference between all these different IRC-to-Matrix modes is.
<nckx[m]>Welcome to the Matrix.
<PurpleSym>Yeah, getting kicked off the Matrix room when leaving the IRC-bridged :libera.chat room is definitely a bug…
<PurpleSym>Anyways, thanks nckx!
<nckx>PurpleSym: We've basically gone from a network-to-network bridge, where an entire ‘copy’ of Libera was made available (by EMS) under the :libera.chat namespace, to a one-to-one model where *every single* channel has to explicitly set up a Matrix bridge if they want one. This can be to any server, but there was already a #guix:matrix.org which I controlled, and I don't think running a Guix Matrix server is tenable, so here we are.
<nckx>You're welcome.
<PurpleSym>Would be a good reason to keep our synapse package updated though 😇
<nckx>Hrm, someone squatting a private #guix-risc-v:matrix.org ? Not sure what I'm looking at.
