<sneek>tohoyn: wb!
<tohoyn>sneek: botsnack
<sneek>:)
<wingo>sneek: seen aleix
<sneek>aleix was in #guile one year and 4 months ago, saying: anyone attending any Guix discussions on Sunday?.
<wingo>!
<civodul>hey wingo
<wingo>hey :)
*wingo been deep in gc things recently
<civodul>heheh, that was my understanding :-)
<civodul>sounds exciting!
<civodul>i feel like i remain at the surface of things these days, a bit frustrating
<sneek>Welcome back chrislck!
<ArneBab>wingo: very cool!
<civodul>wingo: samplet provided patches that fix a (minor) bootstrapping issue, that of generating srfi-14.i.c: https://issues.guix.gnu.org/54111#11
<civodul>if that's fine with you, i'd like to apply them
<wingo>great, please do
<civodul>concretely, that allows us to (1) stop shipping a pre-built srfi-14.i.c, and (2) removes the dependency on Perl
<civodul>awesome, tx
<wingo>in some future i would like to migrate srfi-14 to scheme... one day
<ArneBab>wingo: are you interested in r7rs foundational? That’s about features that require more implementation support and it might benefit a lot from your experience about which features are easy to optimize.
<wingo>could just include the unicode data and munge it in a macro
<wingo>ArneBab: not really interested in r7rs tbh. i am assuming that if any part of r7rs becomes important that guile will be able to implement it
<ArneBab>wingo: ok
<wingo>i know it's just an assumption but i don't have the bandwidth to be involved in r7rs (and in the past haven't always shared interest with people making it)
<wingo>i understand that things evolve tho and i am fine with r7rs people doing their thing ;)
<wingo>(not that they need my permission of course :)
<ArneBab>wingo: can I throw you questions if there’s something that seems important (for Guile devs) that I cannot answer?
<wingo>sure :)
<ArneBab>Thank you!
<civodul>wingo: yes, having them in Scheme processed at expansion time would be nicer, for sure
<wingo>thing is, if we did that probably we should remove srfi-14 from the default environment, and getting it to work with srfi-13 things is tricky. maybe best to migrate srfi-13 first, but then that requires rlb's utf8 work :)
<wingo>migrate srfi-13 to scheme i mean
<civodul>ah yes, sure
<civodul>that'll give more work for the compiler and JIT to chew
<civodul>it might improve performance in some cases i guess?
<wingo>ooh, it could, but it is risky
<wingo>i think it's one of those things where you hope you don't regress
<wingo>and you do it to reduce the c
<sneek>Welcome back dsmith-work :D
